The following is taken from the experience of a migrant.

Immigration is a very personal experience:

Immigrating is a very personal life event. There are 11 phases that people go through, from initial excitement for a new life and culture, to depression and homesickness, to eventual acceptance of your new home. Don't expect flowers every day. It takes a while to get used to a new place.

The biggest bit of advice is to do your homework. Learn as much as you can on the new country.

The future will not be about overpopulated parts of the world, but places like Canada, Russia, Australia, New Zealand...places that have the space to grow and flourish.

To many people this is not a land of milk and honey. You have probably read some very negative comments about moving. You have to remember that you have to work for what you want. Nothing will be handed to you. Yes, places like Candad, Australia and New Zealand are social welfare states, where there is universal healthcare, unemployment assistance and other social programs to help the general population. But, you will have to be creative and resourceful and have a focus on improving yourself through education or some sort of job skill that is in demand. It's not impossible to do very well here, but it's not going to come looking for you. As the saying goes, SEEK and ye shall FIND.

Final thoughts:

When it is possible, definitely do come and visit for for as long as possible to see if the culture and climate suits you. The majority of people who move here stay and make a home here. BUT, do your homework. Don't come here blind and ill informed.

Good Luck!
